If all you want is the Microsoft newsgroups then use the Microsoft nntp
server at msnews.microsoft.com. You don't need a username or password to
use that server. For the rest of the newsgroups you could go to
www.motzarella.org and sign up for a free account there. The only
drawback
to Motzarella is that it doesn't carry any of the binary newsgroups.

Motzarella.org will exist for only a few more days. It will become
Eternal-September.org on July 1, and anyone who wants to use it should
now use Eternal-September.org instead.

See http://www.orcomondo.org/node/49847

I knew that the change was going to take place. Just thought that it only
applied to the news server address and not the web address as well.

When you click that option, the program ntbackup.exe is supposed to
run.

Sounds like it might be since when you try to shutdown you get a
message that says it is running.

Minimize all your open windows or close everything so you can see the
desktop.

Click Start, Run and type ntbackup.exe in the box and press enter or
click OK.

It may take a few seconds for the backup wizard to launch. Describe
the results as best you can.

If nothing good happens, click Start, Run and type cmd in the box and
press enter or click OK to open a command window. Type ntbackup.exe
and press enter.

You should see a quick message about loading backup devices and then
the wizard should open.

Describe the results as best you can.

Type exit to get out of the command window.

There is no problem getting event viewer message using a web browser:

Only paste events relevant to the problem going by the time stamp or
the Source.

Double click to open the event. There is an up arrow and a down arrow
to move to the next event. The third button below the arrows will
silently copy the event to the Windows clipboard. Then you can paste
it here just like I did using a browser (Firefox):

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7036
Date: 6/30/2009
Time: 9:00:47 AM
User: N/A
Computer: YOUR NAME HERE-UFGC7XM
Description:
The Removable Storage service entered the stopped state.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

You will probably never be able to get rid of all errors in the event
viewer - especially at system startup since things start at different
times. You do want to figure out errors that happen once you get
going, happen regularly or when try to run programs that fail.

There is nothing in the Event Viewer if ntbackup.exe merely starts and
you do nothing after that.

I looked at EVENT VIEWER. Under system I did not see anything
that looked like BACK UP. Under System there were a lot the
following: ERROR (date and time) DCOM None 10010or10005 Owner
OwnerA4 I have no idea what all that means Under Application
there does not seem to be much.

Then quit using the web based interface for the newsgroups and use
a real newsreader. There are several free newsreader programs to
choose from, Outlook Express which comes with WinXP does
newsgroups. Other choices include (but are not limited to)
Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, SeaMonkey, and Forte Agent.

Select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and right
click on Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) and select Properties. The
StartUp
type should be Manualc. Is it?

Hope this helps.

Thanks Roy I have tryed to set up OUTLOOK Express. I have set up my
e-mail,
but when it comes to the News Server Address, along with user name
and password no one seems to know what that is. My ISP Huhesnet is
clueless. That
is under News Groups.
Any ideas?
