Default "welcome"

Today, after switching on the laptop, I entered the password and after a
wile I got the usual message "welcome". After that I had to wait, and wait
and w anait. I went to the kichen to make some coffee and after 15 minutes I
came back and there was still no change.
Decided to reboot with ctrl-alt-del but nothing happened. I had to reboot
with the switch.
What the heck?

Hi Linea,

pull out the power cord. flip it over and remove the
battery for five minutes. re-assemble and plug it back in.

give it a whirl and let us know how it works out.

This thread is that issue, but in a corporate environment.

I think his "I had to reboot with the switch" means be _has_ got it
working again. (But just wants to know what happened - which the link
Paul gave may show; I haven't looked at it.)

little reason, except the desire to be gregarious, that anyone but a few
should go in person to any place of entertainment again. - BBC yearbook 1930

Yes, I have Windows running now after a hard switch off and on. (was asked
wether to start Windows normally or safe mode and I chose normally)
I always use the laptop on a mains adapter and without battery.
Thought I'd mention the issue. Issue doesn't happen often, however this
wasn't the first time...

It happens to everybody from time to time, I think. It certainly
happens to me, regardless of OS. Unless it's regularly and often, you
might as well ignore it.

You might search the Event Viewer for possible clues if you suspect a
real, persistent problem.

Look in the Add/Remove Programs applet to see if something just got
installed.

Look in Event Viewer to check for any problems at the time you booted.

Start reviewing your list of startup programs.
