Default Folder options when opening a file in a program

Whenever I go to open a file, (document, picture, etc.) within a program
(Word, Photoshop, etc.) the "open" window is always arranged by "list". I
then must change it to "details", which is my preference. Is there a way to
make this a permanent change? I've used "folder options" in Windows
Explorer, but that doesn't change things elsewhere. I've looked in
"Administrative Tools", but I couldn't find anything there.

The way the tiny "Explorer - style" Open As.. & Save As... dialogue boxes
display their file-contents, with a few exceptions, is usually based on how
you have your main Windows Explorer "default view" set.

In other words - open Windows Explorer and select a [any] folder and select
the view you most like to have (say detailed view) THEN - still within this
folder select :

Tools Folder Options View (tab)

....and press the "Apply to all folders" button (I also press the "Reset all
folders" button for good measure and then on the "Apply to all folders"
button for a second time)

This sets the default view for files & folders in Windows Explorer - but
also is reflected in the "Open As..." and "Save As..." dialogue boxes...

Another option is to download the free modifier program :
FileOpenPatcher.exe available from :

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...nPatcher.shtml

With which you can make the "Open As..." and "Save As..." dialogue boxes
always appear in "detailed view" and also set your preferred size for the
boxes.
