Default Windows Live downloads then 'rolls back'?

I'm prompted to indtsall the latest version of Live Messenger but when I
attempt this is downloads then 'rolls back.' The error message (0x80280006)
says to check that more than one version of 'Live' is not running (I dobn't
think it is!) or that I am downloading another programme and have to wait!
...no other download was taking place.

I've tried reducing firewall protection but it doesn't solve the problem.

Any ideas please?

I hvae XP Pro SP3 and keep automatic updates turned on.

Cracked it!

It seems the only way to sort this is a complete uninstall of previous
versions. I did this and then had no problem in downloading the latest
version and it is running fine. I used 'Windows Install Cleanup' as advised
by kandinsky63 in a post not far below this one.
