Default stuck on screensaver

HP, XP with SP3
First time ever, screen got stuck after on a while, maybe 2 hrs. The
screen
saver (Starfield) was frozen, and hitting any key or escape did not
change this.
It was like in a dead sleep! I turned off and rebooted from 'tower'.

Searched for 'hibernate", searched for 'sleep' and 'sleep mode' no
result.
Where are they?

I found Power Option Properties, and 'enable hibernate' not checked,
Turn off monitor was showing "after an Hour"...hmmm, I now changed it to
"Never"
Turn off hard disk was "never", System standby was "never"

Anything more that I should do?

TIA
Sylvia M.

Though it could be a fluke, there could be a hardware problem...
first off I'd make sure *all* cooling fans are turning properly and not
clogged with dust.
