Default System shutdown options

I have Sp2 installed (had problems initially now ironed out) but one curious
thing happens when I go to shutdown the system. All three option buttons are
displayed and accessible (i.e. STANDBY, TURNOFF and RESTART). Without
changing anything (no system restores for example) in my configuration, days
or weeks later when I go to shutdown the STANDBY option is displayed but
inaccessible to select. This also seems to coincide with a failure of my
video driver to load (nVidia TNT RIVA) and Sys. Mgr shows the display adapter
as not working. Any thoughts or advice?

I have just done a 'clean boot' and low and behold all 3 options are
displayed and accessible again and SYs.Mgr says my video adapter is working
again!!
