I was looking at component specs prior to building a new PC.They all
said that they had OS Compliance with Windows 10 64 bit. I questioned
what that meant and was told:
Sadly AMD & Intel only support Windows 10 on all of their new
architecture, If you tried to install Windows 7 the motherboards
wouldn't work correctly because the drivers this can stop the USBs from
working etc.

So what is your question here? Intel and AMD are running a business and
intelligent people are using Windows 10. Why should they waste time
making something for people using a junk operating system? They have to
move on and they can't wait for you to die before making things for
Windows 10. You can either start using Windows 10 or find something
else to do your work.

This is not the place to cry about something we can't do anything
about. We have to move on with time.

If you are building a new PC you can always try it anyway to see what
happens. The problem with running older versions of Windows is that they
are not updated as completely, if at all.

If you really need Windows 7 you can always run it inside a virtual
machine. You also have the compatibility option if it is only one or more
executables you need to run.

See this thread for delaying updates forever.

So far, it's working for me, thanks to Paul and Bob_S mostly.

The solution is said to work on both pro and regular Windows 10 too.

This is a better thread.
What is an effective way to tun off Windows 10 updates until YOU want them back on?

"the drivers this can stop the USBs from working"

What? Care to rewrite that so it makes sense?

Why should an existing USB 2 driver (for example) stop a new USB 2
hardware port from working? The spec hasn't changed.

In any case it should be the other way round - The OS is supposed to
support the hardware. The chip makers provide an instuction set which
compilers and assemblers (software) use create OS components and user
programs.

pcbanter seems to be one of those web forums that sucks Usenet posts in
an effort to make it look like they have actual content.

There are lots of those web-based forums for boobs that can't figure out
how to configure and use an NNTP client. The boobs were weaned on web
browsers. Those users don't even realize there is a hierarchy (tree
structure) to threads within a discussion because, gee, their web-based
forums flattens out all posts to the same level so you can't be sure who
responded to whom.

Because they are a web-based leech site for uberboobs is why I filter
out any posts originating from there, just like I filter out the
uberboobs, trolls, malcontents, and pueriles posting through Google
Groups. By leeching from Usenet, the web-based forums can pretend they
have more content or, in some cases, Usenet is their only content that
they pretend is their own content.

You can use a Skylake era processor and run Windows 7.

If Windows Update on Win7 detects a Kaby Lake or a Coffee Lake,
Microsoft has set up Windows Update to stop offering updates.
A third-party developed a hack to defeat that.

The USB3 driver on Windows 8 and Windows 10 is a
Microsoft driver. There is no built-in driver for
USB3 (XHCI) on Windows 7. Third parties, such as
NEC/Renesas/Asmedia/eTron etc. provide USB3 drivers
for their hardware on Win7 or even WinXP. I presume
Intel offers no PCH/SOC chipset drivers for USB3 on
their end of things for Windows 7.

The unknown, is what else is missing. You'd need
to Google the processor you had in mind and see
if anyone has tried it. And see whether you can
fix it up enough to run Windows 7.

Then you have to work out "whether this was an upgrade"
or not. It's like buying the speed boat you always wanted,
which has a few holes in it and you have to use the
bailing bucket all the time.

Sadly, there is absolutely nothing we could do, unless some governments
mandate that Micro$oft and all hardware and firmware manufacturers to
provide drivers to older versions of Window$.

You might just wanna run Win 7, but some just want WinXP!

Let's be completely honest with each other... and let's all agree to be
adults who wish to be helpful.

*I get your point ... but what's your alternative solution?*

I asked a while ago which URL is the best "search engine" for this
newsgroup.

That's the only URL that came out.
http://tinyurl.com/alt-comp-os-windows-10
http://tinyurl.com/alt-windows7-general

*If you have a *better* search engine, I'm all ears.*

It's easy to disparage the work of others - but what's your alternative
search engine for this newsgroup?

For example, try to find my post asking for the best search engine.
How would you do that?

Wrong questions(s).

You were referring to threads in 'this' [1] newsgroup. So you could
just have given the News URLs or/and the 'Subject:' plus 'Date:'
headers. No need for a search engine.

[1] alt.comp.os.windows-10, i.e. before you added the needless
crosspost (and failed to say so).

Nothing wrong with Win 10. Running on four machines. O&O software has
a program called Shut UP10 which can be used to stop sending some
data to MS. Plus when you install Win 10 there are setting about
security. For instance 'send typed data to MS' can be turned off. The
Pro version can delay updates for a period of time but, not forever.

I have never used Shut UP 10, but I thought I recall reading that it
could permanently shut windows10 updates. Is that not the case?

Web based forums are like subscribing to 10 different newspapers

Email list-server groups and USENET are like having all of those
