The new folder might be in the wrong place - it won't be sorted at first, so if your file pane has a lot of entries it might be outside the visible part of the pane.. Press F5 to refresh the window and then look in the correct place for the new folder, depending on how your directory is sorted, such as alphabetically or by time. -- Gene E. If I was facing 110 updates, I'd do a backup first. That's a few too many updates in one clump, for "easy digestion". ******* I do *not* recommend cavalierly waving "takeown and icacls" at the problem, because you're likely to hit the wrong thing and really mess it up. Nevertheless, it might be a solution for the problem. You're not supposed to apply that to the entire C: partition, as it would screw everything up that Windows uses. And be hard to put back later. Applying it to a user downloads folder would probably be OK, but still not the best of ideas. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/tims/archive...deletable.aspx takeown /f %1 /r /d y icacls %1 /grant administrators:F /t (That can also be added as a right-click menu item) http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...-shortcut.html A portion of the .reg file from one of the downloads on that page. You can see the right-click menu item they're adding, also uses takeown and icacls. "[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\runas\command] @="cmd.exe /c takeown /f \"%1\" /a && icacls \"%1\" /grant administrators:F /c /l" "IsolatedCommand"="cmd.exe /c takeown /f \"%1\" /a && icacls \"%1\" /grant administrators:F /c /l" That would typically be used, if connecting a "stranger data drive" to the machine. ******* You could try examining "accounts", and see if the folder you're accessing, actually belongs to the same account as the user is logged in with. There has to be some sort of explanation as to what happened. It almost sounds like something bad happened to the user profile or something, and your son is no longer your son, in terms of the account used. I would much rather understand *why* this happened, then rush to fix it. You really need to "root cause" the thing, and figure out how that happened. And figure out, what exactly has happened. Playing "whack-a-mole" with takeown, you'll be doing that forever and a day, depending on the root cause. There is an example here, of creating another account and copying the files over to the new account. That's their solution for a corrupted profile. You can tell from what they say not to copy, what part functions as the profile. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...#1TC=windows-7 ******* There are a few issues in modern Windows, with redefining where certain things are stored. For example, in the past we might move C:\Program Files to D:\Program Files. Or perhaps C:\users\nick to D:\users\nick. When you do a Service Pack install, the result can be a failure of the attempt to install, and a rollback of the update. That tells me that Microsoft isn't always ready to entertain the movement of segments of the storage setup. So if you've been doing something like that, it might (low probability) be a contributing factor. Of those 110 updates, maybe one of them was Win7 SP1 :-) Paul |

Ah yes, the Explorer Auto-Refresh issue. I have a WinXp machine that does it, I need to press F5 to see changes to 1 partition (or only to some folders, I forget). Yup, even New-Folder or Delete are invisible until I press F5, and yup, only on 1 partition! I never figured it out, I dont even know if it still does it, I dont use my Xp machine very much. So, is this your problem? I have no solution for you but trying to determine what your issue is more precisely... Best Regards, -- ! _\|/_ Sylvain / ! Some don't complete until a reboot because they can only get applied early in the startup of Windows when the required files for the update are not in use. If that doesn't work, the problem is with a refresh (repaint of the window for Windows Explorer). Try booting Windows into its safe mode and retest. That will eliminate any startup programs from interferring or altering the behavior of Windows Explorer. |

Come to think of it, a long time ago I learned a Russian phrase that was apparently pretty bad, because no Russian speaker I knew would translate it for me. I could use that one. BTW, someone eventually helped me to pronounce it right, but still, no translation. I could try Google Translate, although I'm not sure how to spell it in Cyrillic, partly because my pronunciation is still imperfect. Thanks for the suggestion.
