The question of the day would be : I have 2 computers
sitting side by side both with the same op system (xp
home)all updates installed both with Norton security 2004
( all updated) both connected to a Linksys router
(befw11s4) and latest firmware installed and both
configured exactly the same however I can talk on windows
messenger 4.7 on one yet not the other??? I have run thru
the audio setup wizard ( on both computers ) multiple
times and it says it is working...also the same sign in
name and password so of course I only can be on one or
the other....If some one has any idea what is wrong or
what I am missing I would be forever grateful as I am
going more gray by the minute trying to figure this
out..As always cheers to all and Thanks..........Drew

Check you sound system setup, click the volume icon in your system tray and
then select Options/Properties, make sure the Mic is Not checked in the
Playback mode, but is checked in the record mode.

also the camera and microphone is a Logitech pro 4000 and
it checks out fine...even used a different microphone and
still nothing...talked to Linksys and they helped put my
computer temporarily outside the firewall and still
nothing....totally disabled Norton security at the same
time and still nothing...

If you are trying to use the mic in the camera, then that is the problem.
Get a normal mic and plug it into the Sound Card in the back of the
computer. Then it will work. Logitech is very good on video, but do not
understand how sound in the applications in Windows work.

You will need to run the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard again and make sure you
select the new mic and the sound card as the source.

okay gentlemen : I bypassed my router and went directly
through my dsl modem and BINGO !! sound and video !!..had
a 30 min conversation with my friend so that means it is
certain ports that need to be opened on my router to
allow messenger to work properly..now I just have to find
out which ones. Thanks for all the help.......Drew

The USB mic is not going to work very well either, go

get a $15.00 mic at
Office Depot or such and plug it into the sound card on

the back of the
computer, and you should be in business.
