Windows seems to freeze after splash screen

Default Windows seems to freeze after splash screen

When starting my friends laptop it goes black after the splash screen,
starts fin in safe mode, there is still activity on the hdd after the screen
goes black but I cant do anything, any help will be appreciated

I have the same problem. I am able to boot in Safe Mode and Directory Service
Restore Mode, are you? I am still investigating the issue.

Default Windows seems to freeze after splash screen

Same here, I found out that the problem with this one was the display
adaptor went out on it, wouldn't display any resolution but 800 x 600,
anything else the screen would be blank.
Started in safe mode - removed the display adaptor from device manager then
restarted, windows loaded default drivers for the display adaptor and
everything was fine except the resolution, reinstalled manufacturers driver
it was fine too but when setting resolution to anything but 800 x 600 would
go blank again. Spent several hours on with HP they said that it was a
faulty adaptor. Googled and found many people that had the same problem with
high end HP laptop display adaptors. May be a problem on other laptops too.
