messenger probs

all of a sudden my msn messenger 6.1 has started playing up...it runs the windows installer when i try to open it, and ends up in some registry error. then when i tried to uninstall and reinstall it with the latest setup file from the website, installation
seems like it goes ok. but when i run the program, i get an error saying the application configuration is incorrect and i need to reinstall! so i go ahead and reinstall, and it gives me some assembly code error...

what on earth is going on? how do i get it fixed?
does any one know anywhere else where i can get a slightly older version of msn messenger that works fine? maybe 5.5 or something...

The quickest way to fix this to download the setup from he

Run it and either Install or choose Repair (depending on how far you are in the install).

Otherwise, you're going to have to reply back with the assembly code error.
