Consumers are more satisfied with desktop PCs than laptops, tablets, study says

I can't see any use for a tablet. I travel almost every week for work and bought a tablet so that I could watch TV shows or movies while I'm waiting for a flight, and especially during the flight. Free booze (I fly first class) and naps only go so far. Between trips, my spouse was frequently borrowing the tablet, so I eventually got a second one. It mostly lives on the couch in the living room, and we use it surprisingly often. News report about a fire in California? Two taps on the tablet and we have a Google map of California. Story about Somalian pirates? Two taps and we know more about Somalia. What other movies was this actor in? Two or three taps and we have the info. That 'star' is really bright, what is it called? Oh, it's Venus, thanks to the portability and nearly instant access to a live star map. What's a live star map? It's where you hold the tablet up to the sky and it shows you what you already see, but it labels everything and allows you to zoom in/out. I haven't even scratched the surface yet. If you have any sense of curiosity or wonderment whatsoever about the world in which you live, you'll find countless uses for a tablet. I don't mean you personally; I mean you in the general sense. We also each have a laptop, and I have a desktop PC, as well. I haven't sat down in front of the desktop PC in over two years, but I use it daily as a remote PC. I use TeamViewer across the WAN when I'm away from home, and across the LAN when I'm home. Many people aren't aware that TeamViewer can be used within a LAN. If I had to give something up, it would be the desktop PC. Beyond that, it would become a very painful choice. -- Char Jackson |

Consumers are more satisfied with desktop PCs than laptops, tablets, study says
Per Ken Blake:
I can't see any use for a tablet. I do. I never use mine at home, but I use it when I travel +1 - except that I use mine at home too. - Light weight (laying on the couch on my back.... -) - Quick startup - couple seconds max vs 30 seconds for the laptop to come out of hibernation. To me, it's a media consumption device. As soon as I start thinking about creating content, the laptop or desktop come to mind. -- Pete Cresswell |
