Password: Admin and User - Unable to log in
HELP! A friend was given 2 Compaq computers with Windows XP Pro., SP2 but
cannot log in as they do not have the correct passwords for the 2 userID's on the system. I took the two PC's home as I knew I could bypass the passwords by going into "Safe Mode" and using the default "Administrator" to reset the user's passwords, however, the Admin account also has a password set so I cannot reset the passwords to login. I've been emailing back and forth with a Tech from Microsoft but I'm not getting the information I need to bypass the UserAccount(s) to reset or delete the passwords. He sent me a WindowsXP Pro, SP2 disk and I re-installed Windows but after the installation I still had the same password issue. How can I get access to bypass the user accounts and reset or delete passwords? Note: I've noticed in the window of the user account, upper left, "System Security File is Full". What can I do? PLEASE HELP... -- Ron Schlieper -- Ron Schlieper |

You re-installed and you didn't set the passwords? Google will help you hack the passwords, but if the clean install did not allow you to set the password, then that is not a proper clean install. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

Password: Admin and User - Unable to log in
Thank you for the information, however, I still don't know how to
remove/reset the passwords in order to log in. I thought I did do a "clean install" as there was no other choice in booting from the new WinXP Pro SP2 disk I received from Microsoft. How do I do a "clean installation"? What choice? I'm asking for help but only given advice that does me no good as to bypassing the admin login or deleting a .pwd file (if this exists in WinXP). I'm asking for help but only given advice that does me no good as to bypassing the admin login or deleting a .pwd file (if this exists in WinXP). I told you to Google for the advice on how to bypass the password - but what you really need to do with used equipment is format and start fresh. First - clean install... http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html Second - if you want to risk whatever has been done to the installation media you are using (because you get to choose your password with generic/actual/default installation media) - you can use something from here to fix your password issue... http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...r_password.htm I suggest: "Petter Nordahl-Hagen's Offline NT Password & Registry Editor - A great boot CD/Floppy that can reset the local administrator's password." Last - learn to use Google. ;-) Now is a great time to point you to one of the easiest ways to find information on problems you may be having and solutions others have found: Search using Google! http://www.google.com/ (How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html ) -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |
