fwiw; i did the only few things i know of, whicg most likely didn't change a
thing & they didn't, but i ran ad aware, avg a/v, spybot, have an in the
background security running, ran ccleaner & have spyware blaster too. i also
ran the registry cleaner in ccleaner & there was 73 "could not be located",
"unloaded's" & "i don't need them's"

Youre describing a hardware issue, why turn to 3rd party software
utilities....
If pc is not used for 5 min or more,do you allow for stand-by,or
hibernation,
or sleep mode.If you run a screen-saver mostly then readjust youre pc down-
time (power options). Also, heat the major cause of electronic failure, are the
fans installed correctly, heat sinks clean....Also,youre at OS risk running
all those
utilities, the registry so called cleaners, corrupt more than clean.

Registry cleaners, specifically, can cause more problems than they cure. If
you dont have sufficient knowledge to edit the regisrty manually, dont use
them.

As to the slowness, it would appear that the PC is not 'waking up'
immediately does it revert to normal after a short while? or do you have to
reboot?

Correct me if I am wrong. Don't you use a dial up connection I seem to remember
that. If you are still using that then it sounds normal for you connection to wake
time to wake up after being idle for a while. As far as Registry cleaning tools DO
NOT USE them. They will and most probably cause more issues then it is worth. They
are all snake oil remedies and they do not make your machine faster and they do not
save space. Get rid of it ASAP

hiya peter & thanks; yes, i was on dial up for quite some time, but had to
move again - finances, rather lack thereof - the good thin tho' is i do have
dsl now, via att & here's the speed i am usingownstream Speed: Up to 1.5
Mbps
Upstream Speed: Up to 384 Kbps

thanks as andrew also told me the registry tool. what about the
anit-spyware, anti adware, etc.; i most likely mis understood him, but i
thought he said utilities, plural, so not sure if he meant those too or a
typo.

so yes, for several months now, it is so slow coming back & trying to have
any tab in ie7 open up.

the registry cleaner i used was within the ccleaner, but thanks to you &
andrew, will no longer use that tool.

hope you're feeling well :-)

thank you dl & yes, after what andrew, peter & you say, i will no longer use
the registry cleaner - i tried it the one time due to the slowness - didn't
know.

yes, it will revert back to normal, or what i'm used to after several
minutes, so no reboot, i just wait it out, so not sure why its not waking
back up.

thanks again!

Windows' indexer routine will noticably slow down some systems. It could be
the indexer is running on your machine when the system is quiet and then
when you come back to use the computer, resources are slow to return.

kermit, it just occurred to me that you didn't say to disable it, rather you
simply said it may be slowing the pc down; 1, can i do so without any harm,
other than slow searching ? & 2, below are the instructions i did find to
disable it, & want to make sure this is how it's done.

thanks very much !
