Default ACER BIOS upgrades

Hello,

I have an ACER Aspire E 15 (AKA E5-511-PXVU) now running Win10.

From the ACER support page, I have download BIOS upgrades:

BIOS_Acer_1.03_A_A
BIOS_Acer_1.06_A_A
BIOS_Acer_1.07_A_A

, zip files. Before moving forward, I thought it wise to ask if I should
install these and more?

Thanks

Depends on what the updates address and if they would have any impact on
your configuration. Some updates address issues you need to fix, others
update support for newer processors and such.

My motherboard had an updated that fixed support for gaming keyboards so
my keyboard would now work in the bios setup...a worthwhile fix. If the
later thing like support for newer processors and your current processor
is supported and you are not upgrading then I'd say the upgrade would
not be necessary for you. There always is a slight risk when updating
bios, but I have never had any issues. Always weigh the risks and benefits.

Take care,

Jonathan

You only need to install the newest and not all of them.

You need to install the one that works the best.

And that's not always easy to determine.

Just because there is a "latest" one, doesn't mean
it is "functionally the best". And this is where
your research abilities come in handy.

And lots and lots of hardware can be bricked while
doing such upgrades. My latest motherboard has a
dedicated flasher system, so that even an Intel
CPU is not necessary in the motherboard, while
you're flashing the BIOS chip. But that way of
doing things has not spread all that much in
the industry. That makes the motherboard "unbrickable",
as long as you have a backup copy of the original BIOS
just in case. (I.e. You need at least one known-working
image to return to, if there is trouble.)

Yep. I would only install an update if it adds some feature or
functionality you do not have now...but need. Otherwise best to leave it
alone.

I must have him in my KF.

I have not been on Usenet since I broke down and got a smart phone but
figured I might as well check in here again.

Since it seems almost everyone I know has gone the smart phone route...I
have been doing very few computer repairs.

The other day I did have some Photoshop work to do so turned on my
rarely used Windows machine and the SATA card died.
New one should be here in a few days...that was one of the few things I
did not have sitting in a box somewhere.

You only update to the newest version, not everyone. Of course, the old
saying, is it ain't broken, why update applies.
