Locking the Internet from kids
I would like to lock up the internet when I am not using it. I have a DLS, and would like to find a way to lock access to the internet from my kids. How do I do this?

Just the internet or the whole computer?
What sort of internet connection do you have? (dial-up, DSL, cable..) "One of five" wrote in message ... I would like to lock up the internet when I am not using it. I have a DLS, and would like to find a way to lock access to the internet from my kids. How do I do this? -- One of five |

You could create a limited user account for them on your system and then disable the network card
through your admin account, as limited users I don't think they can re-enable the NIC. -- Dave Vair CNE, CNA, MCP, A+, N+ "One of five" wrote in message ... Block your kids from having access to one of the greatest sources of knowledge in history? Why on earth would you want do do that??? The Internet is here to stay. It's become part of our culture. Locking the Internet from kids
I had a similar situation with my ex. She wanted the PC to be restricted for
her kids access. I installed "Net Nanny", which allowed me to block any "unsuitable" content from being accessed by her kids. There were 2 of them, so I set up seperate accounts with different settings (One was more prone to look for porn than the other one) .. It also allowed me to lock the computer on either a time-basis (like, once they should be in bed) and ban sites that contain sexually explicit images. I would recommend Net Nanny to anyone who requires this kind of internet restriction. It takes a while to sit down and learn how to configure it properly, but it would be worth it if you're worried about what your kids access. Oh, and not only did it monitor internet, but it could block chat rooms, yahoo + msn messenger, and send me an email once a week with a full report which I could see what child tried to do what! (It also gave me a good list of porn sites I could visit! haha!) Hope this helps? "One of five" wrote: I would like to lock up the internet when I am not using it. That depends on how much you know about computers.
The ideal: Always be with your kids when they are on a computer, or have them supervised by another adult you can trust. If your kids are sneaking in to access the computer after bedtime, try putting the computer in your bedroom or a locked office. The simple solution: Unplug the modem and keep it locked away when you're not using it. Make sure the kids can't get the key. The technical solution: Create user accounts in Windows XP. Force users to log on with a password. Either set the kids to have limited access and disable the modem for their accounts, or don't tell them their password if they should only use it under supervision and you can log in for them. I agree with Eric here, although it could be as simple as one user
account with the computer, and mom and dad have the password. If a child wants to go online, they have to get mom or dad to enter the password first.
