Default HP Deskjet 1000 - Paper Trays

My HP DeskJet 1000cse has 3 paper sources. The one that is
lost is the manual feed from the rear which is basically
straight through the printer without rolling it around
inside. It can print (I should say it did print) on heavy
construction paper since it does not bend it around to get
it through the mechanism.

I know this works when I print envelopes but when I try to
print a normal document on standard paper in the rear
paper tray, it ejects the paper and loads a sheet from the
lower paper tray. No matter what I set in the printer and
document properties, it overrides this setting and uses
the lower paper tray. This is getting VERY VERY
frustrating!

When printing envelopes I try to adjust the return address
position on the envelope and Windows and Word XP tosses
those setting and prints it right back at the default
position.

I have contacted Microsoft and HP and to them this is a
dead issue.
