You reconfigured the RAM in the 8200,
to a configuration that would boot.

By running memtest86+, you're doing
the minimal amount of work to prove
the memory is "trustworthy".

Since there were no errors in one full
pass, there should not be an immediate
corruption issue when booting and running
Windows.

And that's why you did the test.

Normally, the order would be:

1) Reconfigure memory.
2) Run memtest86+ first. You can run multiple
passes if you want, but one pass for me
is the minimum. And Test #5 is the hardest one
to pass, for sub-standard or slightly defective memory.
3) If memtest86+ passes, you can now try booting
Windows.

Note that, when working with someone, I *did* have
a case where Windows was corrupted (damaged) by bad
RAM, and this was *after* passing memtest86+. I like to
use Prime95 Torture Test as a better kind of test, but
that one is a lot harder to explain.

So while the above three step procedure is not
optimal, at least you can say later, that you
put a little effort into it.

And if Windows was corrupted, you do have your
backup MRIMG. Which would be all-important in this case.

If things went downhill, the procedure would become

1) Reconfigure memory.
2) Run memtest86+ first. If you can't pass memtest86+,
you may need to try some other, known good RIMMs.
3) Download and burn a Linux LiveCD. Download Prime95 static
version from mersenne.org . Run the Torture Test for
four hours without error.
4) If (2) and (3) pass, you can now boot Windows.

Naturally, step (3) is a lot of work and learning
experience. And notice I didn't throw you into
that "bottomless vat of fun" :-) I gave you the
easy one to run.

HTH,
Paul

Understood, and the 8200 is running very
smooth and all the Seagate drives have been
very quiet.

It looks like were done unless you would
like me to do something else?

btw, whenever I start a letter in Word I
get this:

http://i68.tinypic.com/i3bhps.jpg

I still have all the original disks that came
with the 8200 and I loaded the two disks (small
business bundle with Excell and Word on them)
but it never seems to correct the problem or
maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Excel works fine and actually so does Word except
when I start typing a letter I get that message.

Thanks,
Robert

""The Office Assistant requires Microsoft Agent 2.0 or later"
error message when you start an Office XP program or use
the Office Assistant in a program

"Method 3

Download Agent Core Components

Download and install the Agent Core Components from the
following Microsoft Web site:

http://activex.microsoft.com/activex...t2/msagent.exe
"

But before you run off and do something like that,
this article addresses what MSAgent is for.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/969168

"Microsoft Agent-enabled programs do not work in Windows 7

Hotfix Download Available

Microsoft Agent is a set of software services that supports
interactive characters within the Microsoft Windows display.
Some examples of the Microsoft Agent characters are the
Office Assistants. The characters included Clipit (the paper clip),
The Dot (a shape-shifting and color-shifting smiley-faced red ball),
Hoverbot (a robot), and The Genius (a caricature of Albert Einstein).
The characters would interact with users by offering help with tasks
currently being performed.
"

So by not having that function, you're avoiding seeing the
Clipit character :-)

If that's all it is,. I can live without
it.

Again, many thanks for helping me work
through the problems and setting up the
computers.

Wow,

This thread is now so long, it "broke" in my Thunderbird - I can no
longer collapse it, it only collapses a portion of the thread, with the
remaining messages displayed below, and no way to collapse them (I
ended-up deleting the whole thing).

First time I see this behaviour...

Regards,

The counter in mine says 382. And the display eventually
folded back and started on the left edge again.

Mine too, and collapses just fine in Agent v6.
Agent doesn't start at the left edge, but does stop further
indentation, even though I have indenting set to be only one
character. To get more indentation, I'd have to delete the OP, and
then the a reply to it, etc.
