Default "New Programs Installed" displays constantly...

so, basically, that is it... every time i restart, and i
mouse over the start button, it says there are new
programs installed, and then highlights 17 or so
applications that have been installed for a while now,
and actually highlights apps that i have never even used
(microsoft access.) i have done nothing recently, other
than delete prefetch files, and clean up the disk
(defrag, delete temp files, clear cache, etc...) and
then i reduced the amount of space that should be used
for a system restore to about 6% instead of the default
12%. any ideas???

i'm curious to see if there is any way these apps were
modified by some pest or something. i'm tight security-
wise for trojans and hacks and such, so i'm not really
worried about anything like that, but is there some other
way these files could have been modified?

i'm just curious why it keeps displaying them as "new
programs installed" i have opened all the apps and used
them, so they should go to the normal state now... it
just won't go back to normal, and i am stumped...

anyone have any ideas??
thanks,
jason

One of the first things I do when I set up a client's computer is disable
that feature, which hardly ever works properly. If you wish to do the same,
right-click on Start, choose Properties. Click Customize, then the Advanced
tab, and uncheck Highlight newly installed programs.

What do you want to to do ?
If u want to remove the highlights, right click on your taskbar, click
properties , then start menu then customize, go to advanced and uncheck the
highlight newly installed programs.
