Windows won't remember my default browser - Firefox
This has been happening for about a month now, and is quite annoying.
For some reason Windows 8.1 (32bit) won't remember Firefox as the default handler for .html files. I tick the box to remember my choice, but it keeps coming back every single time I launch Firefox by itself or a program (like Forte Agent) calls it up to view a page. Screenshot: http://postimg.org/image/4cdmj6h5x/ Is this happening to anyone else? Does anyone know of a known bug in a recent Windows update, or maybe even a Firefox update? More importantly, how can I fix this so it does not keep prompting me? |

Recent IE updates are usually Cumulative Updates, rarely more than a single update in a given month though 'quick fix engineering' or necessary security updates can follow within 2 weeks of the last cumulative IE update. If FF is not my default browser (sometimes I turn it off temporarily), *Firefox* asks me that question. But there's a configuration item to stop that *in Firefox*. Tools | Options | General tab First check box (under Startup), "Always ask..." That's how I control that question. -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |

I think what you have to do is change the default browser to something else (via Control Panel), use that browser one time to open an HTML file, and then change the default browser to FF. I think. :-) |

The original post has (a link to) a screen shot of Windows asking. http://postimg.org/image/4cdmj6h5x/ See the right half of the image. The right half of the image is what MS-Windows asks after after a new program has registered itself as able to handle http: links. MS-Windows knows that Firefox is the handler for http: links, but MS-Windows thinks the user might now want to use this new other program instead. So MS-Windows asks if the user wants to "Keep using Firefox" (see the top option on the right side). MS-Windows also lists all the other programs which are registered as able to handle http: links. -- Kind regards Ralph |
