Default Blue Screen: Deduce Cause From Screen?

http://tinyurl.com/3dp4a5a

I'm hoping for something like a bad memory stick.

The PC was trashed by somebody bco repeated failures with Vista
installed on it.

I dumpster-dived it, tried XP, and got the above blue screen.

It's still a very nice case.... but before I start from scratch
with a new Mobo/PS, I'd like to make sure it's not something
easily fixed.

Bad RAM or bad disk (bad block, depleted spare sector pool) Did you do a
full format on the disk when you installed XP?

Per Tim Meddick:
Error Stop Code = 0x0000007A
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc957628.aspx

Thanks Tim. Thanks Peter. Thanks John.

I've tried a few disc drives - complete NTFS format on the
latest.

My money is on memory or the disc controller.

This thing's CPU fan was totally clogged.

Maybe I'll try a SATA card in it... maybe I'll just chuck the
MOBO, and maybe the PS (not knowing how proprietary it is....)

It's still a much nicer case that I could get retail/cheap.

Have you tried running memtst86+ on it to test the memory?
