Now, How to get MSE
Well, its me yet again, in trouble with Win 8. I knew I had no malware protection so Googled Miscrosft Security Essentials. A long list came up --- top one a "Download Microsoft Secuity Essentials" page. Carelessly, I failed to notice that it was not Microsofts "official" download site. Well --- what I got was a total foul up. First it set IE as the default search engine, installed some toolbars I can't remove and most of all, prevents or blocks real downloads of MSE (the official site says it was downloaded, but when I do a search for it it isn't found). So, by hasty action has totally mesed up the computer. Any helpful ideas would be much appreciated. I still have an installer for AVG2014 . But even if that works, it will bring a host of new problems! |

There is no point to downloading Security Essentials as it's been replaced by a more powerful Windows Defender. I used windows 7 file recovery, image copy for backup and restore (works fine under 8) until things stabilized (I still use it every few months). "Started over from previous save". ?? That draws a blank here!? I don't know of any "previous saves" or how to get them if I have any! I have no idea as the first thing I do with a new system is back up a system image. How were you planning on starting over after a loss of system code? If it were me, I'd check with whomever sold it to me. |

I forgot to mention that the system provider, Lenovo in my case, provides a recovery path so again check with the seller. It will be more work than periodic backups and you will have to recreate all the work you did between the time you got the system until it failed. |
