Default Winows 8.1 and Start 8

I just installed Windows 8.1 (RTM, not the preview) on one of my
machines here. If anyone's interested, I can answer the question
that's been at the back of my mind for a while: Start 8 continues to
run properly under 8.1

Since Start 8 runs, I assume that other similar programs like
ClassicShell and StartIsBack probably also do, but I don't know for
sure.

You installed it for the first time yesterday, and now you are a
promoter...

I installed it today, not yesterday.

A promoter? Not at all. I have no idea whether I like it better than
Windows 8 or not. I've seen it for just a few minutes.

My message was merely to share the answer to one of the questions I
had about it before I had seen it at all.

It seemed to me that the above was obvious, so I for one had no reason
to criticize you or to call you names :-)

That it worked on 8.1 was gone over in their forums. Love forums.

The only forums that exist are Windows 8.1 *preview* forums. The
preview and the RTM are not necessarily the same, which is why I was
glad to see that it worked.

The Start8 Forums.

Aah! Sorry, I misunderstood you.

But even there, anything posted could only pertain to Windows 8.1
preview which was all that existed until a few days ago.

Who knew that it would be so hard to post some information and have people
actually thank you for it. ;-)

Where did you download it from and can it be removed after installed?

I get it from MSDN. You need to be an MSDN or Technet subscriber to
get it. Since I assume you are not, you'll have to wait until October
18.

You can remove it, but only by doing a clean installation of whatever
you want instead.
