"housetrained" wrote in message ... I use WIN8 on a desktop, my wife has WIN RT on a tablet. I send her an email. She sees no pictures only square boxes with red crosses in the corner. How can she get a WLM icon on her desktop to use WLM like i do and not as an app? Will that make a difference You can't (get the WLM icon) No, it won't make a difference WLM is a desktop email client and included in Windows Essentials 2012. - can be installed on Windows 7 editions and Windows 8 editions (Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 Surface) - cannot be installed on Windows RT (RT only supports MSFT Store apps and third party apps included by the pc manufacturer) Thus you are in the correct newsgroup...if the problem is occurring on Windows 8 RT Thanks for that Winston, I've re-sent the email with the jpg attached rather than dragged onto the email body. When she is next 'playing' with her 'Surface' I will see what happens and let you all know. Thanks for all your help and interest. -- housetrained |

For help focused on WLM, that has its own newsgroup at: microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop Actually the issue is Windows 8 (not WLM) - Windows Live Mail doesn't install on Windows 8 RT i.e. the problem would be central to: - Windows 8 - Windows 8 mail app (Windows Mail) - ISP or web client receiving the email (using Active Exchange Sync or IMAP) So you're saying the OP's wife couldn't be using WLM as he claimed. That's why I wondered if she was using something else, like Mail that comes with Windows 8. I forgot that Windows [Surface] RT only lets you install apps from the Microsoft Store and, per your comment, WLM isn't offered there. I haven't even bothered to look at Surface (Pro or RT). |

WLM can't be installed on Windows 8 Surface RT. - Surface RT uses and ARM processor (Nvidia Tegra 3) - only apps from the Store including those provided/pre-installed. - Surface Pro uses an Intel i5 processor and supports user installed desktop applications, pre-installed MSFT Store apps and MSFT store apps. WLM (a component of Windows Essentials) is strictly a desktop application. Correct WLM 2009 (part of Windows Live Essentials 2009 can be used on XP, Vista, Win7, Win8). My above comments referenced and stated the Windows Live Mail (part of Windows Essentials ***2012*** could be installed on Win7, Win8, Win8 Pro, and Win8 Surface [Pro]). Since Win8 Surface RT was the point of discussion the fact that WLM2009 installs on XP is not relevant. No version of WLM will install on a Surface RT. -- ...winston msft mvp consumer apps |
