Default Windows Noise and Volume Control

But for many other sound cards (like my CMI8738 based ones),
no DSP in hardware, no DSP in driver, no bass or treble sliders,
no nothing. But the card cost $10. I used the graphic equalizer
on the stereo to fix the output of this :-) My stereo had
an excellent mixer on it, and all the toys in the computer
room plugged into it. Like all things electronic though,
eventually it passed away (no smoke or anything).

I have two sound cards in my main computer, the one that's built into
the motherboard and a M-Audio Delta AP2496. I use the built-in for
system sounds and CD playback and such. The other one is for my music
recording. I think the built-in has some surround claptrap included,
but I don't use that. The 2496 has no DSP, it's just for decent analog-
to-digital conversion. I have both of them running into a small Mackie
mixer, then into a pair of powered monitors. The mixer has all the tone
shaping controls I need. I plan to always keep a setup similar to this.
I like to have actual physical knobs to grab and twist, rather than
mousing virtual knobs.

_Some_ multimedia keyboards - though surprisingly few - do have an
actual rotary volume knob.
