Default Network printer problems

Printing to the network printer take too long to start. I
recently installed a different copy of Windows XP Pro on my
computer, and this copy works differently. The specific
problem that I am having is probably due to network printer
configuration issues. Pages will print, but it take several
minutes for the print dialog box to come up.

When I googled [network printer setup] there were several
examples of exactly how to set up a network printer for
Windows XP Pro, the problem is that the printer setup dialog
box on my copy of Windows XP Pro does not have any of the
same options.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with a network printer
setup that would cause the print dialogbox to take several
minutes to load, rather than a few seconds?

I have more specific information now, when I print ten ASCII
characters from notepad it takes exactly 45 seconds for the
print dialogbox to come up, and another 45 seconds after I
click on the print button before printing begins, then the
page prints correctly. What could be causing this?
