Default Subtitles

I love watching anime, I had absolutely no problems watching it with Media
Player on my XP system, but when I got Vista, I couldn't see the subtitles
anymore.

To make sure it wasn't the video, I got the video again. I recalled that the
file lost some information when I was moving everything over to my new
system. I tried wacthing the video again, but no subs.

I thought it was the Media Player's settings, so I made sure all the
settings allowed subtitles. Nothing

I then thought it was the codec installed to be able to view the video (I
use FFDShow and Haali Media Splitter) I opened up the codec settings and made
sure it allowed subtitles. Still nothing.

So now, I'm stuck. Can anybody help?
