Default File attribute (duration) does not show anything on the files

I have recently noticed that when I right click an avi file, and go to
properties of the file, I was able to all the information for the avi file
such as framerate, size of the file, duration of the avi file or whichever
media it is.
So here is the question, what changed in order for me not to be able to read
the properties of any given media?
