I have a gigabyte motherboard currently with 2 No 512DDRPC3200 ram cards.
There are slots for 4 memory modules; the names quoted in the Gigabyte installation guide are ddr1, ddr2, ddr3 and ddr4. I have to-day installed a further 2 No 512 cards but the computer is still just recognising 2 however a strange thing has happened; previously Belarc advisor recorded them being in slots AO and A1 with A2 empty, now it is recording them in slots A1 and A2 with AO empty; furthermore cpuz records my total dram at 2048 MBytes so they seem to be installed OK. I am told that the problem may rise with the "pairing" of the cards but have not heard of this before. Obviously I can take them out and try re-arranging them but it would be helpful if anyone knew of this "pairing" and if there is a way I could recognise the positioniong before I take them out and re-install. Thank you. |

Stewart, did you check to see how much Ram your Gigabyte Motherboard
supports? If you just installed two DDR PC3200 512MB ram modules and they were not a set or paired but the two you have originally were paired or a set then you may have problems. Go into the Bios and set the Ram timings to Auto. "Stewart" wrote in message ... I have a gigabyte motherboard currently with 2 No 512DDRPC3200 ram cards. Thanks, I know that the motherboard can support up to 3Gb.
I shall try what you suggest. "Rich Barry" wrote in message ... Stewart, did you check to see how much Ram your Gigabyte Motherboard supports? I have now tried all permutations and believe that the extra ram I have been
given is DDR2 whereas I need DDR1. I shall just have to scout around and see if I can get any at a reasonable price. Thanks again. "Rich Barry" wrote in message ... Go here http://www.crucial.com/ and use the Memory Advisor. It will tell
you what type you need. You can also Google the part numbers on the RAM you have to find out what type you already have. SC Tom "Stewart" wrote in message ... Stewart, DDR2 Ram was so cheap for awhile I was tempted to buy some
for future use. There are Motherboards that take both kinds but they are scarce. DDR2 and 3 are more common now. "Stewart" wrote in message ... I have now tried the Crucial download and find that they are selling 1Gb ram
for £31; they do not state that it is DDR1 but at that price I am fairly certain it is. I get the same results from Kingston. I changed the ram around in the computer a few times but stupidly did not take a note of the part numbers on the functioning installed ram, nowhere however did I see the words DDR1 or DDR2. I have decided to go ahead and buy a strip of 1Gb DDR1 ram and if that works then I shall get one more taking me to the maximum that my motherboard can handle. Thanks again.
