THunderbird
Win XP Pro SP3
Thunderbird 52.9.1 eMail access I have several eamil accounts: hotmail, outlook and damned gmail. I open Thunderbird and immediately get a request from gmail to allow access by Thunderbird for one of the gmail accounts. I enter the password and thunderbird now has access. Great ! But why ! Next I proceed to another gmail account in TB and am denied access. This time tb is asking for the password. I enter it and check the box to remember it and it fails. I repeat and it fails. So I proceed to another gmail account and same thing happens. I have a password bank so I know the password is correct ! All other brand accounts have no problems and are accessible. These were all working a few months ago ! I had no need to use this PC recently but now I do. Also, gmail, for another account says it was suspicious attempt, whatever that means and wanted to verify using a phone number to send a text to. unfortunately, my cell phone is not with me. so I am locked out of that account because of gmail !!! Pertinent Suggestions please. |

At a guess, it's that gmail has somehow spotted that you're using a device you haven't used for a while. Next I proceed to another gmail account in TB and am denied access. This time tb is asking for the password. I enter it and check the box to remember it and it fails. I repeat and it fails. So I proceed to another gmail account and same thing happens. Can't speak for gmail, but another large company (not email) accepts a landline number (at least in UK), and the necessary is spoken. (They don't go out of their way to promote this option, mind.) Pertinent Suggestions please. Try giving them a landline number. -- J. P. Gilliver. Pertinent Suggestions please. "I can't sign in to my email client" https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229#cantsignin If you are not using Authentication Method = OAuth2 with Gmail, then you may be running into Gmail turning off "less secure app access". https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255 1. The best fix would be to change the Authentication Method to Oauth2. Gmail considers OAuth2 authentication to be "more secure access". Thunderbird version 38 and higher support OAuth2 with Gmail. OAuth2 is available if the server type is IMAP but not POP3. 2. Alternatively: Check if Google has turned off "Less secure app access" in Google's account settings, for each one of the accounts which are denied access. https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps 3. Even when "Less secure app access" is turned on, you may also need to visit https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and follow the steps on that page -- for each one of the accounts which are denied access. FYI Gmail does not want you to use your main Google account password in your email program. Google considers this to be "less secure" than using OAuth2 or an app password. -- Kind regards Ralph |
