Remote Assistance - Live Messenger 8.5
When attempting to set up a Remote Assistance session to help resolve a
problem for a friend, I get the message "Remote Assistance Connection could not be established because DNS name could not be resolved." I am behind a wireless router (but Ethernet connected), & UPnP is enabled. Any suggestions as to what I should do to resolve this? -- BrianC |

Remote Assistance - Live Messenger 8.5
Greetings Brian,
The error message is a generic "couldn't connect" message, don't bother reading into exactly what it's saying DNS. If you're trying to assist them (aka connecting to them) it won't matter if you have UPnP -- there's no reverse connecting or anything like that. They'll need either a direct connection, NAT with UPnP and any software firewalls disengaged. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "BrianC" wrote in message ...
