Default Apps keeps coming back

Has anyone else noticed that whatever apps you uninstall in Windows 10
actually come back? I've remove Fresh Paint, Travel, Food & Drink and
others three times and after a while, there they are again.

That could seriously alienate me.

Damn! You'll have to move to Linux!

Are you using an edition of Windows 10 that doesn't let you have a
choice regarding automatic updating?

Isn't that every edition except Enterprise? Otherwise, the best you can do
is to request a short delay, right?

Linux doesn't have drivers for my wireless which means that I wouldn't
be able to connect to the Internet. It also can't use my illuminated
keyboard and the GTX 970M, my GPU, shimmers when using the proprietary
driver in Linux.

I'd rather ignore Linux.

Powershell

# Type the following command to remove
# all Modern apps from the system account:

Get-AppXProvisionedPackage -online | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -online

# Type the following command to remove
# all Modern apps from your current user account:

Get-AppXPackage | Remove-AppxPackage

Which suggests after you use your current
recipe, and have rebooted one time, and leave
the Ethernet cable disconnected, try the

Get-AppXProvisionedPackage -online

Get-AppXPackage

to see what is actually present.

I tried both commands on my Win10 test
machine, and they barf up a list for you.

You can elevate the powershell.exe if you want to.
Type "powershell.exe" into the Start, and the top
item should be it. Right click and select "Run as
Administrator", for that extra feeling of power.

In the past, there used to be a recipe to "un-secure"
Powershell, before your first command invocation.
For some reason, Win10 does not require the same
dance you needed to do on earlier OSes. Maybe it's
because I haven't attempted to run a *.ps1
downloaded script or something. I may have been
running something like that in the past, and maybe
that's when I had to "do a dance number", before
I could use it. The above scripts are built-in ones.

Apps aren't delivered via Windows Update.
After removal have you visited the MSFT Store and noticed the previously
removed apps are available to install.

Is Win10 configured to automatically update apps ?

Thanks, incredibly useful. I would have liked to keep Photos though. The
page assured me that it would remain but it didn't.

I was thinking later, that I should have provided
a warning at the end of my post :-)

You should really go though the list that tool
can produce, and see if there is anything
"important" in the list. Because while most of
them are cruft, there could be things like the
"Settings" panel you would not want to remove.
That's the Settings panel that looks like
a Metro application.

The new apps are fairly good now that they open in a window. I never
used the apps in Win8.1 but I like the new Maps, Weather and I have a
live Bitcoin price app that I like. I haven't looked at many apps but
so far so good. Windows 10 is looking good. I was going to dump Win10
on day 1 but now I actually like it. Looks like Win10 will be worth
working through the bugs.

Settings is still there as is Edge. I can live with Edge being on the
machine because it comes built-in with Flash and I might use that from
time to time to watch streams of the UFC. As long as it is not in my
main browser, I'm happy. Like I said, I would have liked to keep Photos,
as well as the Store, Music and Film & TV since I enjoyed the fact that
Microsoft was taking its media store a lot more seriously (finally) but
it means that I would have to be annoyed with apps constantly coming
back, I can do without. Besides, I'm sure that Microsoft will give us a
way of buying/downloading/viewing that content without the need for
those apps.
