Default windows root\system 32\hal.dll

during a virus scan i deleted this and now i don't know how to get it back. it has effected the performance of my computer.

If you have a regular WinXP you can use msconfig to expand it from HAL.DL_
in the i386 on the CD.
If all you have is a Recovery CD you may have a Windows\i386 folder on your
hard drive from which you can expand it.
