Default Eternal September is down?

I get a weird lack of any response when trying to get all group headers.

See "eternal-september.support" via AIOE, as an alternate
free server, to keep in touch with current E-S events.

The user-based testing at the moment, says
reader80.eternal-september.org:80 is still operational.

I've been having intermittent trouble with their SSL connection for the
past week or so.

I went back to the default 119 port a long time ago and all the problems
have been solved.

What's the rest of the set-up?

I cannot get Thunderbird to connect to either news or reader80.

I hope you realize that you need to be registered.

What difference would that make if TB cannot connect?

I may do that. I don't think SSL security is very important here and I
do think it's part of the connectivity problem.

e-s is my backup server, so it's not much of a dealbreaker in any case.

Newsgroup account settings, Server settings. Is the Connection Security
set at "none"? Have you got the user name and password?
