Message: "Error creating process..."

While trying to upgrade to the latest MSN Messenger version I receive an "Error creating process..."-message on executing the installation. It doesn't matter if I first download and save the executable to my HDD or 'Open' it on download.
The same problem occurs while trying to get the latest updates and fixes from Microsoft using IE's 'Windows Update'.
Does anyone has a clue to solve this?
