wrote: what version is needed please There is no version with which you can upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7. You either have to do a clean installation of Windows 7 or do a two-step upgrade (ugh!) first to Windows Vista, then to Windows 7. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) since 2003 Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

what version is needed please What do you mean? If you plan on attempting to perform an in-place upgrade (not a clean install) - you need to purchase 'Windows Vista' (Business or Ultimate) and upgrade to that first then you could get 'Windows 7' (Professional or Ultimate) and upgrade to that. AFAIK - there is not (will not) be a direct upgrade path from Windows XP to Windows 7. If you want to go straight from Windows XP to Windows 7, that will be a *clean* install. Now - you can purchase the upgrade licensed version of Windows 7 and use Windows XP as the qualifying product - so you save money. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |
