Default Cannot open Monitor ICM file driver

I have just reformatted my PC and have been unable to change the screen
resolution to 1024 by 768 pixels. The Monitor keeps saying "Out of Range"
when I try to change it forcing the resolution back to 800 by 600. I have
downloaded the Monitor driver to correct this problem but when I try to
install, I'm told "Windows cannot open this file". I have done a registry
clean and repair as suggested from the Windows Live Search and even had this
particular RegSweep software technician remotely log in to my PC in order to
try and fix the problem. The technicial was unable to solve this problem.
Can anyone help me?

"Out of range" means your monitor cannot display the resolution you have
chosen.

When you reinstalled your software did you reinstall your video card
driver? (This is /not/ the same as your monitor driver.)

To install a monitor driver in Windows XP:
Control Panel Display Settings tab Advanced button Color
Management tab Add button

A registry does not need cleaning. Do not use registry cleaners unless
you are prepared to cope with the damage they can cause.

Thank's Leonard. I did not reinstall the video card driver. The technician
that logged into my computer also told me to get to the Color Management tab
from the display properties but there is no Color Management tab there. When
I told him this, he asked to log into my computer and then he saw for himself
it was not there. The monitor was working perfectly at 1024 by 768 pixels
before I reformatted. This monitor is still new and I have reformatted this
computer a few times before and never needed to reinstall the video card
driver in order to change the resolution.

You /always/ need to re-install the video card driver when you reformat
your computer.

Different topic: If you have "reformatted this computer a few times" you
have to ask yourself what you are doing wrong. Most people never need to
reformat their computer. My copy of XP Home is more than 6 years old and
never had to be re-installed.
