Default Problems With IE6 in XP Home e/d

I recently bought a laptop with Xp home e/d .

I removed unuded shortcuts from the desktops , which at the time included
IE.

I have also installed East-Tec eraser which , when scrambling files has
eliminated the restore points .

When I download a file , the prompt asks me to designate which program I
want to run it . I choose the IE , but this is a shortcut

and I get a message saying it is not a win32 file .

How can I get the IE icon to behave like it did originally ?

Mhzjunkie,

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

It's on the same drive as Windows. This is not necessarily C drive.

Mhzjunkie,

"A:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
B:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

We already know about C drive, and it's not likely to be on A or B drives.

Try using the pre-defined %PROGRAMFILES% environment variable. It will
point to your Program Files directory of the current OS installation, no
matter which drive it is on.

So in your shortcut, point to "%PROGRAMFILES%\Internet
Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE".

This should work as desired. Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Dale [MS]

That error is triggered when iexplore.exe is damaged/corrupt.

ErrMsg: "IEXPLORE.EXE Is Not a Valid Win32 Application" [Q303395]
