Adam No. You must have a Windows 8/8.1 system or Windows Phone AND Microsoft Account (previously called Windows Live Account). without this you don't stand a chance to get any Apps. Good luck. -- Good Guy Website: http://mytaxsite.co.uk Website: http://html-css.co.uk Email: http://mytaxsite.co.uk/contact-us |

So basically not only is the Metro interface forced, it is also completely useless. |

Hell I have to make logins and register on lots of web sites to view things, or remove ads. Desktop Nexus a great place for images, removes the ads if you login. |

It's one step away from a party card. I wouldn't register with the communists and I won't create a Microsoft Account I found a public access account. Publ1c@ccess |

As to Microsoft Account, again people on mobile devices need somewhere to put their files which they can then synch with their desktop when they have some time. Microsoft can give you about 8GB of storage to put your files for later use. Why can't you open a free outlook.com account using any username. could be something like: "fgtytejsgdrefd" as long as you can remember it. One thing you shouldn't do is to allow M$ to takeover your existing Windows Account because if it does then you want be able to login on your own system if there is no internet connection. I tried to download an APP today and allowed to use M$ account and to my surprise, my Standard Account was taken over by M$ and just for testing I switched off the internet and I wasn't able to login at all. So I had to switch on the Internet and login and then detached Microsoft Account from my Standard Windows Account. -- Good Guy Website: http://mytaxsite.co.uk Website: http://html-css.co.uk Email: http://mytaxsite.co.uk/contact-us |

Publ1c@ccess Well you could always go over the wall and create a gmail account. But ...based on your posting properties it looks like you already climbed over. The capitalistic approach at this stage would be to register that gmail account as a Msft account. g Then you could use it to get apps. -- ....winston msft mvp consumer apps |

Microsoft can give you about 8GB of storage to put your files for later use. 7 GB free, though recently with the switch(rebranding) of SkyDrive to OneDrive a promotion (not sure if still available) an extra 20GB for one year was being offered. Even after the year, any files stored beyond the original 7GB are retained online, not wiped and accessible. One thing you shouldn't do is to allow M$ to takeover your existing Windows Account because if it does then you want be able to login on your own system if there is no internet connection. Just about any email address (very few domains are disallowed) can be a MSFT account - i.e. it doesn't have to be a Hotmail type (hotmail.com, live.com, msn.com or outlook.com) account though using a Hotmail type account provides some additional flexibility in the web mail interface yet all other online services are equal (OneDrive, Contacts/People, Calendar, OfficeApps) I tried to download an APP today and allowed to use M$ account and to my surprise, my Standard Account was taken over by M$ and just for testing I switched off the internet and I wasn't able to login at all. Did you miss the prompt to switch it to a MSFT account ? So I had to switch on the Internet and login and then detached Microsoft Account from my Standard Windows Account. You did that on the Internet ? The usual route to do so is in Windows 8x -- ....winston msft mvp consumer apps |
