Not the XE-version, but the "old "ersion", FreeCommander 2009.02b. http://www.freecommander.com/fc_downl_en.htm I've been using Total Commander forever! http://www.ghisler.com/ Total Commander is payware while FreeCommander is, well... free. I've been using this one: http://www.avanquest.com/USA/softwar...s&cat=PC-Tools since about version 1.0 and WIndows 3.something which was a while back. In those days PD was free. I think it came on a floppie with several other tools. The last update I got cost me 20 USD. I wouldn't buy it at 40 USD. It looks and feels very much like "File Manager" from "Ye Olde Windowes" back when things just worked, only it has a few more tricks and treats. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_managers and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari..._file_managers "PowerDesk" does not exist. Nor is there a dedicated "PowerDesk" page. Which seems a little strange as I'm running it now. It used to be owned by Vcom, but Avanquest bought them up. That's probably when the full price version jumped to 40 bux. If you trust reviewers, and who does these days when they are all given freebies by Google and Apple?, you may like these pages: http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...le-manager.htm https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=wi...M9OShgef64GIAQ Here's a list of lots: http://www.softpedia.com/get/File-managers/ J. I've used PD for many years up to around ver 6. After that it got flaky. I've got the latest version and sometimes use it but it can be VERY slow and does not handle windows "Libraries" well at all. It also crashes often and other times refuses to start because it seems to think it's still running and you have to go to task manager and shut down leftover parts of it. It's done this behavior on the last three machines I've had it on so I don't think it's an OS problem but a PD problem. I would not recommend anyone pay for PD. Us old time users complained and complained about it's problems to Advantquest and they basically don't seem to care. Mostly I just use windows explorer anymore and open two instances of it. |
