Default Wish microsoft invent new start button

It would be great if we could come back to start again. I guess there is
nothing more to invent but I will wait for next windows. For now I'm very
happy with current system. Still miss a little bit Windows 98. I think my
old father predicted windows would have the 100 version then he disappeared.

Just use a 3rd party utility such as Start 8 or Classic Shell

if you want your interface to look like that of Win7

I highly recommend start8 from Stardock software, yes it costs money,
but it's only $4.99, i've tried ALL the other start button replacement
programs (the freeware) and nothing was as stable and speedy as Start8

And, there is a forum and a bug tracker. You can actually
report a bug to the developer(s) and get it fixed, unlike
commercial software.

Do you really think that no commercial software maker will respond to
bug reports or fix their software?

Why do you like Start8 over Classic Shell?

I am also a Start8 fan, and think it's the best of those I tried. I
also like Classic Shell, but not as much a Start8, and since Start8 is
so inexpensive I settled on it. I can no longer remember the
differences between them, but I didn't find Start8 to be either more
stable or speedier than Classic Shell.

I would like to know too. I have heard a lot of nice things
but never used it

My recommendation, to both of you, is to ignore the reasons why others
(including me) prefer it. Try Start8 (it comes with a 30-day free
trial) and decide for yourself.

I also can't remember exactly why, but I removed Start 8 very quickly
from here since caused lock-ups. Classic Shell worked fine, so I didn't
investigate, I just removed Start 8 sharpish.

How odd! I have Start8 on two machines here, and neither has ever had
a single problem with it. And I know many other Start8 users who also
never had a problem with it.

You didn't have them both running at once, did you?

No. I'm more interested in why he likes it.

it's fast, stable (other freeware I've tried do not resemble the
original start feature/button like start8) you can pick the design of
the start button logo, other versions have hung/crashed when I tried
them out, or when I click the start button there is a delay when the
program list comes up, whereas start8 is very fast. I use an earlier
version with the win 7 logo button design and won't upgrade, the newest
version they took that off for some reason (lawsuit from M$ ? not sure)

my 2 cents, I wouldn't trade this for any other start button replacement

What is the difference between
Classic Shell
http://classicshell.net/
Classic Start8 http://www.classicstart8.com/
Start 8 http://download.cnet.com/Start8/3000...-75732532.html

Look at the TOC of start8 at
http://www.classicstart8.com/Legal/TermsOfUse.aspx. The damn thing
appears to be total spyware and other crapware.

I think I am the only one that uses Aston Menu here. Although it is
trickier than heck to install it under Windows 8 (easy under XP, Vista,
and 7) and maybe I am the only one here that can do it.

I don't think so, Ken. I recall I looking like a video problem - but
didn't stop to investigate. I was trying out several different methods
of making Windows 8 look like a real GUI for the folk I visited in my
volunteer job. As my free copy of Windows 8 has run out now, I can't try
it again to find out what the problem was. Conceivably, it was just on
this system, and/or connected to running in a VM.
