browser disconnects when selecting a web page from search engine

Default browser disconnects when selecting a web page from search engine

I just loaded service pack 2 . I have not observed any problems running my
programs or having my home page come up. Selecting embedded urls from web
pages works fine and typing in a url works fine too. However, if I do a
google or yahoo search and then click on any of the list of web pages , my
broadband connection immediately terminates and I get a dialogue box asking
if I want to sign in on a dial up connection. I say no--then try to click on
my home page and it says I am off line do I want to connect --I say yes and
it puts me back online with my broadband service. This has only started
happening sicnce I did the sp2 update. Does anyone have any idea what may be
happening and how to fix it. Thanks.

Hi Carl,
Try to make sure the machine is clean, I doubt SP2 does the damage or
trouble, SP2 may be struggling with some issue been before, as SP2 designed
with lots of Security features, so check for malware and Viruses, also may be
the download damaged the Winsock on your machine see below for more Info
about Winsock.
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start Control Panel Double click Network and Internet
Connections Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.

2... And also for malware from he

Then Try this:
Open a Run Command and type in these DLL to reregister and see if that will
help:
regsvr32 Dssenh.dll
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll
regsvr32 Initpki.dll
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Jscript.dll
You can copy and paste the above on a Notepad and save As reg.bat file on
your Desktop, then double click it (the icon on the dektop) and click [OK]
for each successful DLL.
Then Open a Run command and type in:
netsh winsock reset click [OK]

You may have winsock corrupt or damaged so download this winsock fixer:
Windows sockets error codes, values, and meanings
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/819124
http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html
Double click it to run it and Reboot your machine and see if you will be
able to access the Internet with either IE or Fox.
After finishing Reboot your machine and try to log in on that site.

Thank you for your recommendations. I will try them later today. As I
mentioned originally, I have no problem going to my home page or to other web
sites if I type in a URL. Also, if I click an embedded web site from
another web page. It is only if I use a search engine and then click one of
the listed entries. I went to the connections tab under internet options and
clicked "never use a dial up connection" and now the problem stopped. My
concern is that while I don't have the annoying isse right now--there still
had to be something that caused it that has not been fixed. I'll look at all
the items you mentioned in your note.

I have Norton 360 running that is supposed to spot spyware and malware and
also Microsoft spyware. However, I'll try the other things you suggested.
