Default Windows XP Update

Hi, I have tried for the past 3 weeks to update windows
xp. Each time I get a message that the page cannot be
displayed. Page you are looking for currently unvailable
or experiencing technical difficulty or you need to adjust
browser settings. I followed all the instructions and the
only web site I can't connect to is microsoft. I'm
confident its the software on my machine--I tested two
other ISP connections and am able to access microsoft on
my other computer.

Any advice or suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Wanda,
Sounds like you're having DNS issues with the page you're going to. Can
you not access ANY Microsoft pages (www.microsoft.com, etc) or is it just
the MS Support page you're having issues with (support.microsoft.com)?

This may sound off the wall, but check a file named "hosts" in
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc. Open the file with notepad.exe and if
necessary, scroll past all the commented lines (starting with an # symbol),
and look for an entry that may look similar to this:

127.0.0.1 support.microsoft.com

The numbers may be different. If you see this, simply delete the line
(don't touch anything else), and you should be fine.

It seems unlikely that your hosts file would be tampered with, unless you
were compromised by a hacker, but this is a possibility since you can visit
the Microsoft site just fine on other computers, and can visit other sites
on the same computer.

Good luck,
--Donald

Wanda,
I apologize, the entry should look as follows:

127.0.0.1 windowsupdate.microsoft.com

It should be windowsupdate, not support as I said earlier.

Good luck,
