Windows XP folder options?
Is there a way to PERMANENTLY set folder view option(s)?
I am getting tired of changing what i see as (a) fixed window about 2/3 of screen, and (b) icon mode. I change the size (to always smaller) and view (to details), and it stays for a while; but this damn "big" window mode filled with icons eventually pops back. Tools--Folder options--View--Apply to all folders DOES NOT give me the "smaller" view size i had set, but (for a while) i do get the Details view i want. Help?? |

There used to be a MATS Fixit for this, but Microsoft doesn't offer it for download for WinXP any more (and hasn't for years), whereas a Fixit for Windows 7 exists. I'm unable to locate the damn thing on archive.org either, because it is protected by the usual link forwarding Microsoft loves. Instead, they leave regedit instructions for ordinary users to "enjoy". Set bagsmru to 5000 or similar. The other keyword is shellbags. shellbags bagsmru 5000 This is an example. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/813711 Since I'm all the time fixing File Explorer windows here, I'm hardly one to tell you whether the feature on my OS is "busted" right now. I think it's working. And I don't think I modified it either. Maybe I'm imagining things. These are examples of how they arrive on download. Some of them, the file "Properties" has a "Summary" tab that actually describes what one of these does. Others don't have that info. It's a real hodge-podge of designs, all intended to "Fixit".
