Windows XP keeps trying to install non-existant device
the error I am getting is: (regardless if automatic or manual install)
There was a problem installing this hardware (Printer name) An werror occurred during the installation of the device The specified port is unknown. I've even turned off my LPT & COM ports to see if this will stop the install. If you disconnect all your printers *(3 if I recall correctly) while powered off and then power on - does it still want that driver? If you disconnect all external devices other than the keyboard, mouse and monitor while powered off and then power on - does it still want to install that driver? -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

Nope !
I get greeted every work day with a "Attempt to install printer" message. If it wasn't so much work (updates, time lost, etc) , I'd format and reinstall XP....
