Windows XP - Stuck during process sometimes
Hi!
I have windows XP SP2 installed on Acer Aspire 5050. These few days, when I turn on my laptop in the log on windows screen, mouse and keyboard does not work, I cannot move mouse or enter my user name and password. Sometimes, even I can log in but it get stuck again mouse doesn't move keyboard also doesn't work. I think it might have problem with hardware but I'm not sure what and how to fix it. Anyone who have met this issues before please help! Thanks in advance. Susan |

Susan The first thing you could try is to boot into safe mode, this can rule out any running processes that are taking up resources. Also update your anti-virus software and scan the whole system in safe mode. If you still experience problems it may be a hardware problem. I would strongly recommend that you backup any important information if you haven't done so already. If this is the case I recommend downloading a copy of Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD), there are a number of tests that can be run to help diagnose a hardware problem including memtest86+ to test ram and salvation to test any hard drives installed. -- Mark Mckee CompTIA A+ Certified www.comptia.org |

There are many ways to tickle your problems ... You can rule out hardware issue by booting up your PC with a bootable Knoppix CD, and check if your mouse/keyboard work. Once you rule out hardware issue, the easiest way to resolve your XP problem is by restoring your OS from a backup (assume you have had regular backups). If you don't have regular backup, see if you have a set of restore CD/DVD that came with your Acer. My Acer Aspire One has a restore option that enables me to restore the OS from day one. But this means that I would lose everything since day one. That is why I prefer to use my regular backups for bypassing problems. If you like troubleshooting, boot up your PC with a bootable utilty "UBCD4Win", and run anti-Virus scans and other diagnostics. Good luck. |
