Installing XP Recovery Console
I have read the document telling me how to do it
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/307654#3 the problem is when it goes through it then comes up with an error message A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: check for viruses on your computer. remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7AFA63C, 0xC0000034, 0x0000000, 0x0000000) what does this mean?? how can i fix this and install the recovery console |

Feel free to *run* it from the CD, of course (assuming all your data is safely backed up). To do this, you need to boot off the CD. Instructions: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/win_xp_rec.htm Scroll down to: "To start the computer and use the Recovery Console" IIRC, you have a bootable CD that only has the XP Recovery Console on it, not an entire Windows XP installation CD, correct? Also note that if Windows is compromised completely, you should perform a Clean Install of Windows XP. Assuming you don't have an XP installation CD, you need to determine the method Acer provided you to return your PC to its original condition. This would either be a recovery CD or instructions to access your hard drive's hidden recovery parition and return the PC to its original condition using that. Have you backed up all your important data? If not, that is the very first thing you should be focused on! Typically, you would need an external hard drive for this. A bootable rescue CD (that you can build yourself) is also necessary if you choose to leave your problematic hard drive in the PC. The other option is to remove the hard drive and place it another PC as a slave. If the above is too difficult and/or time-consuming (which for many it is), you would be well advised to seek a competent local computer tech. Avoid all the chains (like Geek Squad)! |
