Need help finding Programs Files
Today I went to My Computer and then to drive C and cannot find
C:\Program Files. From the Start menu I can open Programs but my news reader (Agent program) is not shown? I ran two different malware scans to see if a virus or other malware was the cause, but nothing found. I am running Win XP SP3. I have run Search and my C:Program Files\Agent appears there - so apparently the program has not been deleted. Can some kind soul offer a suggestion for restoring C:\Program Files? Mary |

Maybe it was a drive-by malware. Do you let your kids use your computer? Maybe one of them changed the hidden or system file attribute (to enable it) on lots of files and folders and then deleted itself so a later scan would not find it. Open a command prompt (cmd.exe) and enter the following commands: c: cd \ dir "program files" Does the 'dir' command still not show the folder (and its subfolders and files)? If not, enter: attrib.exe "program files" Is the hidden or system attribute set (is "H" or "S" shown)? |

Need help finding Programs Files
Hello Mary,
I am running Win XP SP3. I have run Search and my C:Program Files\Agent appears there - so apparently the program has not been deleted. Search again, than right-click on the file and select "open containing folder". The adress bar should tell you exactly the folder where the program is located. Is it still "Program files" ? Also, simply click on the found executable to start the program. Does it start ? If not the program itself might be faulty. Another thing to check: Select, from the Start menu, the program, right-click and select "properties". Does the "target:" box show the same path as where your search showed it to be ? Hope that helps. Rudy Wieser -- Origional message: ECLiPSE 2002 schreef in berichtnieuws ... Today I went to My Computer and then to drive C and cannot find C:\Program Files. Thanks Vanguard and Rudy - nothing seemed to work so I went back a few days and did a system restore. It brought back Program Files. Perhaps ne of the disk cleaners I run was responsible i.e., CCleaner or Advanced System Care?
