Recovery partion Windows 10
I recently bought an HP laptop with Windows 10 reinstalled, and have a
question about the contents of the recovery partition. With older versions of Windows, the OEM operating system, all of the drivers, and OEM installed 3rd party software was contained in the recovery partition. On the recovery partitions of OEM Windows 10 computers is the Original OS in the recovery partition? OR When a recovery is performed will the OS be downloaded from MS and the recovery partition only includes drivers and 3rd party software. |

Recovery partion Windows 10
Hello Keith,

With older versions of Windows, the OEM operating system, all of the drivers, and OEM installed 3rd party software was contained in the recovery partition. On the recovery partitions of OEM Windows 10 computers is the Original OS in the recovery partition? OR When a recovery is performed will the OS be downloaded from MS and the recovery partition only includes drivers and 3rd party software. I read, many moons ago, that taking the W10 upgrade route and NOT reverting to the previous version of windows with the 30 days grace MS zapped the recovery partion and replace it with a W10 version. So, does " I recently bought an HP laptop with Windows 10 reinstalled" mean that it was originally W10 and W10 reinstalled from either the recovery partition or from a purchased W10 licence, or was upgraded from a previous version of Windows? Either way I think you are stuck with W10. The reinstallation of Windows from the recovery partition is an acceptable way of "cleaning" a PC before disposal, as opposed to using a degaussing hammer on the hard disc(s). |

After I posted this request I checked my desktop which came with Windows 8 The recovery partition seems to be intact. When you upgrade from Windows X to Windows 10 what is removed from the disk is the Windowsold folder which allows you to revert back to the old OS. There seems to be one heck of alot of Keiths floating around this newsgroupg ;-) |

It's faster to just look inside the partition in question yourself. No, this is not the partition you're interested in, it just shows the results of me looking at something I couldn't see from Windows. There's always a way to get here. http://s15.postimg.org/pwvs3fee3/recovery_partition.gif Some partitions in the past, actually contained PowerQuest or Ghost images. As their source materials. I don't think that's necessary any more. Paul |
