Default Magnifying glass

Just posting this here hoping that a few of the regulars might have a
little influence on future versions of Windows.

Many years ago there was a 3rd party app that was a magnifying glass.
You could hover a 4x6 inch square window that would magnify what was
under the cursor. I tried to get the program again but it reports it
as malware now.

Anyone else think that something like that might be a feature in the
next Windows?

It's already in 10 (and presumably in previous versions as well). See

The above screenshot is taken after magnifying a section on the screen.

It is called Assistive Technology but just search for Magnifier in the
search box of your computer.

It's under Ease of Access settings in Windows 10. I thought it was in
there under Windows 7 but I don't have one available at the moment.
Have a look in the control panel and see what you can find.

Nice app except for one thing: after use and exiting it leaves a shambles of
my desktop icons!

Not that this is a perfect answer - something that _didn't_ mess them in
the first place would obviously be better - but I've for long used
iconoid (yes it really is from sillysot!), which can take a snapshot of,
and restore, the positions of your desktop icons. [And - if set up that
way, which I think is the default - sits as a tray icon, so you don't
have to go looking for it among your icons that have been scrambled!]

Others that do the same: EzDesk, _very_ venerable, but unfortunately
won't work on 7 (XP [and earlier!] fine, Vista I don't know); DesktopOK
(which has the added ability to save arrangements as actual files you
can reload; the others I don't know where they store the information,
probably the registry. You don't _have_ to store DEsktopOK's saves in
files though).

Now, don't worry. We'll be right behind you. Hiding. (First series, fit the
sixth.)

you must have something wrong.... My desktop is fine and I use it..
Try your switches... Right click on desktop, then clik view in that
window, then make sure you have auto arrange, aligned and show icons and
gadgets all checked...

And how about TTS?
I know I can use one Engish voice in Windows 7, but I also need a Dutch
voice.
No idea where to get one and how to install...
